What's my design process?

Pragmatic and business focused with a strong consideration for end-users.

01. We agree on what ought to be done and by when 🏁

In my humble experience, there's rarely a process that's linear.

As such, I begin each project with a breakdown of the requirements into tasks, based on complexity and time needed to complete them.

A few tools that I like to make use of for this are Notion, ClickUp or Jira.

Then, I analyze the context for which the work ought to be performed e.g. PDP conversion-rate optimisation, and strategies the steps needed to be efficient and effective.

If it is required of me, upon sending this and receiving approval, I begin by setting up a source of truth bank.

This is mostly made out of design principles and best practices, technical documentation, business goals and user insights.

02. I map out and sketch initial solutions ✍🏻

I pick a design tool, such as Figma, to begin sketching out and exploring ideas while researching competitors and inspiration that help me speed up the process and focus on what’s most relevant.

I decide on which design option to proceed with best on heuristics, expertise, available data and urgency.

03. We agree which and if they work for you 🗳️

We schedule a meeting to discuss your thoughts on the work. It is imperative of me to comprehend your vision. This way it becomes clear whether or not what I've done aligns with it or not.

Based on your feedback, I'd usually come up with 3 different versions for the same solutions and then we meet again to evaluate them.

04. We ship it - to dev or otherwise 📑

The solution we have agreed upon I then send to the dev team, which I'd already be in touch with from the start of the project to ensure it can be implemented, for review and suggestions.

If I am the one implementing it - via a no-code tool such as Shopify builder or Elementor for WordPress if the project is in e-commerce - this is combined with the 2nd step.

05. We find room for further improvement 🕵🏻

The definition of "done", to me, is not linear: it does the job for now, but there's always room for improvement.

I'd have a separate file with all sorts of screenshots, recommendations and even bold ideas that I'd share with you frequently i.e. about each and every week.

If you like and approve any of these, well, back to step 1 😉
